Hello friends I have been living away from home for 7 yrs now. in this 7 years i have been living in various hostels and PG (paying guest). So i can very much understand that we arent getting healthy diet there because most of the things are not under your control but having experience of this all i can share my tricks and tips to make your diet healthier.
1.Make smart choices
When you are eating in hostel the thing is that there are only few option on the table so you have to make a smart choices among them. For example choose the complex carbohydrate which is roti instead of rice. choose the dal or lentils instead of that plain curry. another complex carbohydrate could be oats. its too easy for you to have oats the best thing about oats is you dont have to cook it separately just add hot milk and topped with almonds flax seed and banana. even you can add oats to curry in order to alternate rice
2.Add boiled eggs and paneer on your diet
Dont use kettle to make maggi or noodles instead use it to boil eggs and curry it increase your protein intake.the place where i used to live in pg i told my pg owner to add 5 boiled eggs on my lunch and i will pay him an extra amount.so i will have my diet more healthier. you can just add boiled egg and paneer to your plain curry to make it more healthy.3.Whey protein
if your goal is to gain some muscles investing on whey protein is the best option. its a supplement it will help you a lot.
4.Green salad
i m pretty sure that you will get that green salad on lunch and dinner i know its not tasty but you should hop on that salad it will give fibers, vitamins and minerals to your body.
5.Unsalted almonds, unsalted peanuts, unsalted cashews unsalted chickpeas, low fat milk, low fat yogurt fruits should be handy for a great snacks also can soak black channa overnight and eat a full one hand for snacks.
6.Exercise
its always a better option to stretch your body and burn some calorie. join a gym if your aim is to build muscles join jumba, go for a run, play outdoor games as football, volley ball and so on7.Drink at least 3 liters of water daily
8.Avoid junk food like burger, pizza and processed can food i m sure the food you are eating in-buffet or hostels is no less than junk food.
9.Get good sleep
i m sure we dont sleep especially at night but make a habit to sleep at night for at least
8 hrs daily.

10.Avoid smoking and drinking
Dont indulge in smoking and drinking believe me it wont make you cool.
